Hand dryers can spread bacteria in public restrooms

Scientists from the University of Leeds have found that high-powered jet-air and warm air hand dryers can spread bacteria in public restrooms. Airborne germ counts were 27 times higher around jet air dryers in comparison with the air around paper towel dispensers.  Read more

Most NHS trusts unaware of impact of HAIs

Most UK National Health Service trust hospitals are unaware of the full scale, cost and impact of healthcare-acquired infections, such as sepsis and norovirus, a report reveals. Fifty eight per cent of the NHS trusts which responded to a Freedom of Information request are failing to collate the total number of cases of five common infections. British Ebola treatment centre opens in Sierra Leone

The British-built treatment centre opened in Kerry Town, near the Sierra Leone capital Freetown includes 80 beds that will be managed by Save the Children. A further 12 bed centre will be staffed by British Army medics specifically for health care workers and international staff. Read more
