U.S. hospitals don’t follow infection prevention rules

Researchers from the Columbia University School of Nursing found that approximately one in 10 hospitals lack checklists to prevent bloodstream infections, and one in 4 lack checklists to help avoid pneumonia in ventilator patients. Even worse, these checklists are followed only about half of the time. Read more

A magyar startup vállalkozás egy olyan innovatív eszközt fejlesztett ki Hand-in-Scan néven, ami az egészségügyi dolgozók kézfertőtlenítési technikáját ellenőrzi. A Műegyetemről indult csapat a professzionális felhasználók oktatásán túl fontosnak tartja, hogy a megfelelő kézhigiéniás tudást a gyerekek minél fiatalabb korban elsajátítsák, kialakuljanak a helyes személyes higiéniás szokások, megelőzve így a betegségek terjedését. Gastrointestinal illness cases on cruise ships

291 Cruise ship outbreak of gastrointestinal (GI) illness cases were reported since 1994. In 29 cases specimens were not obtained, thus further investigation was not carried out. When identified Norovirus was far the most common causative agent (195 cases, 67 %), fall behind Enterotoxigenic E. coli (12 cases, 4,12 %). Read more

Royal Carribean cruise leaves 600 people ill

The Royal Caribbean International’s Explorer of the Seas is due back in a New Jersey port after its 10-day voyage was cut short when more than 600 passengers and crew fell ill, many vomiting and using biohazard bags for anything they touch. Read more
