Did you know that bathing patients with chlorhexidine–impregnated washcloths can be an effective way to prevent hospital-acquired bloodstream infection?
This cluster-randomized, non-blinded crossover trial figured 7727 patients’ data from ICUs and transplant wards to be bathed with chlorhexidine–impregnated washcloths or with non-antimicrobial washcloths for a 6-month period. The second method remained behind the expectations as the chlorhexidine bath came out 23% more efficient as the second one.
Despite the chemical effect of the method, they claimed that no serious skin reactions were noted during either study period.
