Hoping to break the world record set in 2012 by England’s Health Protection Agency, Glasgow pupils, primary schools, scientists and healthcare professional joined together on 19 March in a unique attempt to promote hand hygiene and smash a world record.
It is reported that more than 5,400 pupils took part on the event although this result still has to be confirmed by Guinness World Records. The key session took place at the Glasgow Science Centre where around 130 pupils were led through the six steps of handwashing and taught why hand hygiene or covering one’s nose when sneezing is so important. Before the event pupils enjoyed a flash mob dance outside the centre.
